My love for underwater photography all started with a photo by David Doubilet of coral reefs spawning. The image spoke to me so powerfully that I used it as a cover image on a paper for my Marine Biology class at the University of Colorado Boulder — and was docked two letter grades for failing to credit the photographer!

After a few hours of investigating who David Doubilet was, and gaining a greater understanding of intellectual copyright, I began to dream of becoming an underwater photographer myself. I found Brooks Institute, as David had done some work with Ernie. The rest is history….
